Episode #125: Chasing Molly
Tuesday Jul 30, 2019
Tuesday Jul 30, 2019
Welcome boys and girls to your first pod of the week! That’s right we did it (applause), we recorded two episodes this week! Your first dose of film nerdery is our review of Chasing Molly our second screener ever, thanks Shelley Pack! Bonus topics today include: we have a new Facebook Fan Group you should definitely join, Mike Talent is not sleepy for once, and lastly we have a new voicemail number for you to call and complain about us to our faces!
Chasing Molly is a fascinating B movie comedy that has tons of potential at times and not so much at others. There are some really great funny concepts, grapefruiting comes to mind, that could have been explored further and there were scenes that could easily be cut. The acting was ok throughout most of the film from the stars but a few of the side actors were pretty rough. This is not a must see movie but if you run across it while trying to find something to watch on your Roku or Smart TV it is worth a few laughs to take you away from the pain of reality. The ending though was rough. It came out of nowhere and didn’t make a ton of sense. It is nice seeing Kurt Angle getting some work too. Mike Talent and Matt agree Chasing Molly earns 2 out of 5 Reels.
Thursday, hopefully Thursday, if Matt get his super edit on, The Boys (see what I did there?), discuss Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film according to him, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood. Mike and Matt are both passionate fans of QT but they differ greatly on this film. Warning it is a long podcast, almost a full hour! Thanks for tuning in and supporting the show.
Lastly don’t forget to support our sister podcasts The Bluemilk Podcast and The Mile High Show also based in beautiful Prescott, Arizona. They are way better podcasts than ours. Seriously.

Episode #124: Stuber
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Welcome podcast listeners to Reel Film Nerds land! Today Mike Talent and Matt discuss a fun summer popcorn flick that definitely will not win any awards, Stuber. Topics that are not about this movie include 40’s, who actually uses Facetime, and Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con 2019 announcements.
Stuber really caught both of your hosts off guard. It is a very funny film with a dash of heart with underlying tones about relationships. The action was great but it was shot a bit too tight for some of the scenes according to Matt. The acting was fantastic. The chemistry between Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani was amazing. The writing was really good and most of the jokes land well, there are a few that really don’t land too. The story is not super deep but it was fun, especially for a buddy cop type film. Both of your hosts agree this is well worth a watch but it is not a must see in the theater. If you are itching to get out of the house you will not be disappointed dropping your hard earned cash on this one. Mike Talent really enjoyed himself and he admits it in the pod! He awards Stuber 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt also really liked this film and agreed with Mike it is a fun popcorn flick. He gives the movie 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
We got our second screener ever! Whoop! Maybe the RFN podcast is getting a following? We sure hope so. The film we will be talking about for Episode #125 is Chasing Molly starring Kurt Angle, Shelley Pack, and Jim Cashman. If you want to watch it before our review it is available to download right now on all the major pay streaming services such as iTunes or the Google Play Store. Mike and Matt are looking forward to watching another film off the beaten path.

Episode #123: Midsommar
Wednesday Jul 17, 2019
Wednesday Jul 17, 2019
Hey kids what time is it? No it’s not Howdy Doody time it’s Reel Film Nerds podcast time!! Check us out we actually recorded a pod this week despite Matt being crazy busy with the 2019 IFL United Bowl. Today we talk about Ari Aster’s follow up to his first breakout horror film Hereditary (RFN Episode #23 if you are curious), Midsommar. Super special crazy impressive off topics include Galaxy’s Edge, cinema drones, we wish we could do this full time, and Drowning Nerd Productions needs a studio.
Midsommar is a super creepy cult movie with multiple images that will haunt your dreams for life! The story starts out with a giant bang and quickly turns into a bore. It is a really long movie but damn is it beautiful. The cinematography and set design were also masterfully done too bad the story did not match. There are some interesting scenes throughout the film but the overall story was just terrible, at least Matt thought it was. Mike thought it was ok but nothing compared to Hereditary. They both agree do not waste your money on seeing Midsommar in theaters. A24, the production/distribution company has a deal with Amazon Prime hosting all of their films, just go ahead and wait until this one pops up there. Mysterious Mike Talent gives the movie 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt really just did not like Midsommar at all. There are aspects he enjoyed but the story was so bad he could not overlook it. He is actually harsher than Mike for once, giving it a full Reel lower with a 1.5 out of 5 Reels.
Either next week or later this week we will be reviewing an action comedy based on Uber starring Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani titled Stuber. What do you think should Mike and Matt quit their day jobs and start their own media company like Collider or Kinda Funny? Ya you are right they are not that talented, hell they can’t even get listeners for this podcast. Oh sweet dreams why do you torture our noble souls? TTYL!!!

Episode #122: Spider-Man: Far From Home
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
Hi everybody and welcome to another incredible amazing stupendous episode of the Reel Film Nerds podcast! Well it’s here, the last Marvel Cinematic Universe film of 2019, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Not MCU or Spider-Man related topics include Aladdin, 501st, nerd cred, and Darth Predator.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is a great MCU addition in the vein of the Ant-Man films. It is light hearted and fun throughout most of the film with incredible action sequences. A ton of the side characters had expanded roles in this film versus Spider-Man: Homecoming. Some of them were wanted and appreciated such as Mary Jane and others flat out were not. This film does get serious when it needs to be too. The explanation at the beginning of the film about the infamous snap was a nice addition giving us information not only for this film but the MCU as a whole. Thank you whoever decided to add those scenes to the film. Lastly don’t forget to stay for both end credit scenes. They are very important on where the MCU is going next, game changing is putting it lightly. Matt really enjoyed this film but he might be biased, he is a big fan of Mysterio. He did enjoy Far From Home more than Homecoming awarding the film 4 out of 5 Reels. Mike Talent enjoyed the film as well but not as much as Matt did. Talent did lose his nerd card during this episode so it’s to be expected. Mike gives Spider-Man: Far From Home 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
Next week hopefully we will get a podcast recorded. Matt is very busy with the Arizona Rattlers heading to the national championship IFL United Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. this weekend. If they do get one recorded it will be on Ari Aster’s follow up to last years chilling horror film Hereditary, titled Midsommer. Look for our review on that super weird and crazy horror flick hopefully next week, toodle loo.

Episode #121: Yesterday
Wednesday Jul 03, 2019
Wednesday Jul 03, 2019
Yesterday, All my troubles seemed so far away, Now it looks as though they're here to stay, Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Welcome everyone to a super special episode of the Reel Film Nerds Podcast! Today we review Yesterday, not the song but the movie inspired by the infamous band that change the world The Beatles! We even brought on a special guest to help digest this film. Hippy, vintage baseball jock, and Beatle maniac Steve Stockmar! Extracurricular topics include Who is LaLa, RFN the unofficial podcast of Portillo’s Big Beef, and MCU tie in battle.
Yesterday is an incredible idea for a fun fantastical film that falls flat on its face into rom-com territory without much com. The film starts off well exploring the idea of what if only one man knew The Beatles existed. It quickly turns into a stale romantic comedy with very little comedy. The acting is great and the new renditions of classic Beatles tunes are really well done. It just did not really push the boundaries of the premise that is presented in the trailers. Is this film worth a watch, yes. Should you run out and watch it in a theater, no. Wait until it comes out in Redbox or on one of the many streaming services. Guest host and Beatles nut Steve of the house Stockmaratheon gives Yesterday 2 out of 5 Reels. Mike Talent enjoyed the film more than Matt and Steve but for some reason he has the exact same rating as Matt?!? They both give Danny Boyle’s latest film 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Since you got a double sized episode this week we are only giving you one. Next week Mike and Matt will review the final MCU movie of the year and last Phase 4 film Spider-Man: Far From Home. If the guys make the time they will get you a second pod next week most likely a Legacy Cast since we have been slacking on those with all the summer films. Have an incredible 4th of July and chat at you next week.

Episode #120: Child's Play (2019)
Thursday Jun 27, 2019
Thursday Jun 27, 2019
Looky looky two in one week again! Wow, we are like butter because we are on a roll. Today the two nerds Mike and Matt review Child’s Play (2019). Super special added topics include hot tacos, Spawn, Crawl, Matt and Mike are old, and lastly the history of the Child’s Play franchises.
Child’s Play (2019) is a unique idea in our modern world for the infamous Chucky. It is not a reboot but a re-imagining of a classic horror film for today’s time. The movie does not take itself too seriously adding a fair bit of humor from start to finish. The acting is good especially Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill, the voice of Chucky, and Gabriel Bateman. The sets are well done even the odd ones, the gore and makeup is great, and the cinematography isn’t half bad either. With all that aside it is not an incredible must see film in the theaters but it is definitely worth a rent from Redbox or on one of the many streaming services. Mike Talent really enjoyed himself and awards Child’s Play (2019) 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also did not hate this horror flick but he did think there were areas worth exploring more. He gives the film an average rating of 3 out of 5 Reels.
Next week despite what the critics are already saying they are reviewing Yesterday, a fun unique film based kinda on the infamous band The Beatles. If he has time friend, listener of the show, and Beatles fanatic Steve Stockmar hopefully will give us his thoughts on the film too. We hope you continue to enjoy our podcast because we really enjoy making it for you!

Episode #119: Anna
Tuesday Jun 25, 2019
Tuesday Jun 25, 2019
Hollywood finally did it listeners!! We finally have a decent movie for the month of June!! Today your hosts Mike Talent and Matt discuss Luc Besson’s latest spy thriller Anna starring Sasha Luss. Bonus topics today include Stranger Things Season 3, Lone Survivor giveaway still up for grabs, and Red Sparrow.
Anna is a well written fun film with good dialogue and a great story. The sets are great and the action was incredible. There are some odd time jumps that are difficult at first to keep up with and the cinematography was just mediocre. Matt would like to see a few more action scenes in the film as well. Mike and Matt both agree this is a film worth spending you hard earned money on at the theater. We have a situation here that has not happened in a while, Matt and Mike agree on a rating! They both give Anna 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
Hopefully we are over the hump of bad and boring summer movies for the year but honestly who knows. The guys are going to try to review the reboot of Child’s Play next hopefully later this week. If not next week they are reviewing a fun unique movie based around the infamous band The Beatles titled Yesterday. If he has time friend, listener of the show, and Beatles fanatic Steve Stockmar hopefully will give us his thoughts on the film. We hope you continue to enjoy our podcast because we really enjoy making it for you!

Episode #118: Men in Black: International
Thursday Jun 20, 2019
Thursday Jun 20, 2019
Episode #118 is finally recorded and uploaded to annihilate your ear holes! Sorry for being a bit late this week but Matt went to a concert down in the ever expanding valley and Mike broke his Internets on our other recording day. Today the gents review Men in Black: International starring Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth. Super bonus topics today include the new HBO docudrama miniseries Chernobyl, the Austin Powers films, June movie gloom, and no one has won our giveaway yet for a free digital download of the movie Lone Survivor so enter now!!
MIB: International is not an incredible film but it is not a horrible one either, it is just OK. The sets were well done as most in the MIB franchise and the acting was passable. The chemistry between the two leads was good but not incredible like we all know it can be, example Thor: Ragnarok. The villains were convincing and intimidating initially. Things change later on in the film in a very predictable way. Mike enjoyed the film more than Matt but not by much. He gives the latest MIB 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt did have a good time but kept finding flaw after flaw blaming it on the script. He generously gives the movie 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
June so far is not a great summer movie month hopefully all that changes this weekend. There are three films the gents want to watch but only promising to review one, Anna. A John Wick style action flick about a government assassin. Sounds a lot like Black Widow or one of our previous reviews Episode #7 Red Sparrow. If there is time the guys will try to review the reboot of Child’s Play. Mike Talent really needs his summer horror movie fix.

Episode #117: Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Friday Jun 14, 2019
Friday Jun 14, 2019
We did it! We got two pods out in one week! Today Mike and Matt fill an official email request from our buddy Ray who writes, “Just wondering if we will hear your opinion of the new Godzilla movie?” Well Ray today is your lucky day, here is our review of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Bonus topics include landsharks, empty theaters, and a cartel shooting near Matt and Mike’s hometown.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a great monster movie with a massive people problem. The story was just bad, real bad. The fight scenes between the different monsters were great! The CGI looked good and the lighting was nice bright even at night so you could tell what was going on in the rumble. The human side of the film was just plain awful. The acting was good but the story was cheesy and predictable. There were cutaways and human characters that made no sense why they were even in this film. Mike and Matt only recommend you go see this movie if you really want to see some great monster on monster action, if not then by all means skip it maybe even on Netflix or Redbox. Matt generously gives the feature 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Mike was a bit harsher with his review but not by much. He gives Godzilla: King of the Monsters 2 out of 5 Reels.
The summer movie season is kicking into high gear and the guys hope to do the same. Next week they are going to review Men in Black International starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. If there is money and time they hope to review the new Bill Murray and Adam Driver horror comedy The Dead Don’t Die as well. It has a killer cast and really looks like a fun film. Lastly don’t forget to enter our contest to win a free digital download copy of Lone Survivor. Listen to RFN Episode #116 to find out how. Chat at you next week!

Episode #116: Dark Phoenix
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
Welcome lucky faithful listeners! Today we have an incredible episode of the Reel Film Nerds Podcast about a terrible movie, Dark Phoenix but you should still listen to this amazing podcast anyways. Bonus topics today include bad year for nerds, you can win something, and Mike Talent falls asleep at the mic!
Dark Phoenix is a bad movie. It is not the worst X-Men movie but it is damn close. The acting is great for the most part but the story and the script is just awful. They did get closer to a true adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga but that is not enough to save this film. Just like the real critics in this world Matt and Mike Talent cannot recommend anyone waste their money at the theaters on this movie. Wait until it comes out on Netflix or RedBox but even then it might not be worth your time. Matt gives the Dark Phoenix 2 out of 5 Reels. Mike is just a bit high but not enough to make a difference, he gives the film 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Hopefully on Thursday or Friday we will have a second pod of the week! Yes it has been a long time since we snuck two pods in one week and it might not happen but we are going to try. Ray from somewhere I am guessing the US emailed in!! Yes our first official email of the podcast!! It only took one year and four months but we got one so we decided to celebrate and fulfill his request ASAP. We will be reviewing Godzilla King of the Monsters for Ray and all of you lovely listeners. I hope this is a lesson to all of you, interact with us and we bump you right up to the front of the line. Episode #115: Rocketman
Wednesday Jun 05, 2019
Wednesday Jun 05, 2019
It’s Wednesday and that means another incredible episode of the Reel Film Nerds podcast is gracing this earth, you’re welcome. Today Mike Talent and Matt discuss the latest music biopic based on the life of Elton John, Rocketman. Matt starts out super off topic about attending the 9th annual local Prescott beer fest Party in the Pines. More bonus topics include what is normal, Bohemian Rhapsody, and do you have to be broken to be rich and famous.
Rocketman is a great film that attempts to be something different than your typical music biopic. It is very depressing at times but extremely colorful as well. The acting is incredible especially from Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell. Their chemistry together is remarkable. The music was great, the sets were big and beautiful, and the costumes are award winning especially with how accurate they are. Rocketman is not a perfect film by any measure it still falls into the same old formula of your typical biopic but the director, writer, and producers really did try to do something different with it. Speaking of different Mike Talent enjoyed the film but thought it was just ok, nothing special. He prefers last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody over Rocketman giving it 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand really enjoyed the feature. I know crazy right he not only sat through an entire musical but he liked it a lot. He thinks it was better than the other film we have named too many times now. Matt gives Rocketman 4 out of 5 Reels.
Next week we are going to watch the last Fox produced X-Men movie so you don’t have to! Mike and Matt will let you know if this is a worthy film for the end of an era and this phase of a beloved Marvel team that is not the Avengers. Episode #114: Brightburn
Wednesday May 29, 2019
Wednesday May 29, 2019
Another week has come and gone and you know what that means a new Reel Film Nerds podcast! On this week’s hump day Mean Mike Talent and Amazing Matt review another superhero movie but there is a catch, this is a horror/thriller superhero movie. Brightburn brought to you by the Gunn brothers puts a dark spin on the Superman origin story to say the least. Extra topics include growlers, nerds are now cool, and of course the rise of superhero films in mainstream media today.
Brightburn is an intense superhero thriller that starts out slowly and quickly ramps up the fear and violence. It is a gritty, dark, and gory film even cringeworthy at times. The acting is excellent especially from Elizabeth Banks and Jackson A. Dunn. Mike and Matt both recommend you go out and see this movie especially if you like horror or superhero films. Matt really loved the take on the classic origin of Superman. It reminded him of the DC comic publications known as the Elseworlds and the Marvel comic book series What If? He gives Brightburn 4 out of 5 Reels. Mean Mike Talent also enjoyed this thriller just not as much as Matt. He can be very harsh especially in his old age. Mike gives Brightburn 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
Next week we are going to be talking about the Elton John biopic Rocketman starring that kid from the Kingman’s movies Taron Egerton who actually sings John’s songs in the film unlike some other recent biopic that was nominated for a bunch of awards, sorry rant over. Episode #112: John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
Wednesday May 22, 2019
Wednesday May 22, 2019
Wednesday is now the Reel Film Nerds’ NEW PODCAST DAY, well for now it is. Boy do we have a good one for you today too. The latest installment of one of the best modern action movie franchises, John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum. Bonus topics start out with vacations, sister podcasts, pants, and slugs not the creature but the round.
John Wick is a staple in the action movie world. It is quickly becoming one of the most consistent action franchises of our generation. It is over the top with its action and brutality but is also shot beautifully. How much farther can they really push the action after this film? It was just incredible! The world of John Wick and The Continental continues to grow as well which is a nice touch. Matt would have liked to seen more world building which I am sure there will be more in the recently announced John Wick 4. Mike loves the John Wick series. It is one of his favorite film franchises of all time and this latest installment is his favorite. He gives John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also likes the John Wick films a ton especially the incredible action and the introduction of new characters and locales. He gives the film 4 out of 5 Reels.
Next week we are going to be talking about James Gunn’s superhero horror movie Brightburn and maybe another movie if Mike, I mean the hosts have time. Support local podcasting and make sure to listen to our sister podcasts that talk about amazing topics as well probably even more amazing than our topic, nah movies are pretty damn amazing, The Bluemilk Podcast and The Mile High Show. Episode #111: Tributary - Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
Wednesday May 15, 2019
Wednesday May 15, 2019
Happy, in words of friend of the show Jamie De Jesus, “HUMP DAY!” Today the guys barely got an episode recorded thanks to their busy lives but they did, go them! It’s a nice little Tributary Cast review of the Netflix Original Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron. Extracurricular topics include film festivals, Mike being out of town, and Jon Wick.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is not the film the guys were expecting. It is not a bad film but it is not an incredible film either. It is really hard to watch a film about a serial killer even without the filmmakers showing the murders. Zac Efron was cast perfectly and delivers a fantastic performance. Matt thinks the first hour of the film jumps around way too much and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The second half is where this movie really shines but still does not live up to his expectations. Mike on the other hand really enjoyed the movie and thinks you should watch it. They both agree if you are going to watch this film you should watch the companion documentary Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes also streaming on Netflix. They really do add to each other and tell you most of the true story of Ted Bundy and his victims. Matt thought this film was just average at best and awards it 3 out of 5 Reels. Mike enjoyed it a bit more than Matt but not a whole lot more. He awards the film 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
Our weekly podcasting slump continues sorry everyone. The guys are just too busy and have way too different schedules so they are sticking to one pod a week, for now. Next week the summer movie deluge continues with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Mike might be utterly exhausted but they are going to talk about it anyways. How can you not? If you are itching to hear someone else talk about equally amazing topics don’t forget to listen to our sister podcasts The Bluemilk Podcast and The Mile High Show. Chat at you next week!

Episode #110: Hellboy (2019)
Wednesday May 08, 2019
Wednesday May 08, 2019
What another episode on Wednesday not Tuesday or Thursday? What the hell is going on with the Reel Film Nerds? Well you need to listen to this episode where we also review the 2019 version of Hellboy. Extracurricular topics include IMAX, Southpark, and cameras to name a few.
Hellboy (2019) is not as bad as the critics make it out to be but on the other hand it is not a masterpiece. The CGI at times is bad, real bad. The acting is ok but mostly comes off as the actors just collecting a check. The costumes work well and look good especially David Harbour as Hellboy. The story can be very busy and jump all over yet also drags at times. Basically it is a hot mess. It was nice finally getting an R rated Hellboy film but they really went over the top with the blood and gore almost to the point where it’s just annoying. Mike Talent liked Hellboy (2019) but thought it was just average giving it 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt was not as huge of a fan. He did not hate the film but did not think it was anything special either. He gives it 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Next week we hope to squeeze out a Tributary on the new Netflix film based on Ted Bundy Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron. If you listened to the pod Mike and Matt are really having a tough time connecting to record. Their schedules are just so different right now especially with the huge time difference. They will continue recording just not twice a week for now. If you are itching to hear someone else talk about equally amazing topics don’t forget to listen to our sister podcasts The Bluemilk Podcast and The Mile High Show. Chat at you next week!

Episode #109: Avengers: Endgame
Wednesday May 01, 2019
Wednesday May 01, 2019
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh it’s finally here! Avengers: Endgame!!! If you can’t tell we are crazy excited for this one. We are pretty sure you already watched it and a million reviews of the film on YouTube by now but guess what here is another one but from the podcast that literally ties every single movie they watch to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Today we are doing things a little different. This truly is an end of an era and you know how much we love the MCU. We love it almost as much as Matt loves Princess Leia in her metal bikini. This is a long pod, almost an hour and a half. Yes that is not long for most podcasts but we are not most podcasts. We understand everyone has lots of other things to do in life and that’s why we really try to stick to our half hour time slot. Today the first half hour is an MCU retrospective with all kinds of fun questions by both your hosts. The last hour is our spoiler filled review. We warn you right when we start the review about spoilers and we do not hold back at all! We spoil the whole movie right from the start of our review. You have been warned!
Mike and Matt both love Avengers: Endgame with a passion. As a stand alone movie without the rest of the MCU maybe it’s not great but as the end cap to an incredible generation of films it is incredible! Definitely a must see in theaters at least once if not more. Do yourself a favor and try to see it when there is little to no people there to ruin the experience. Matt and Mike both give Avengers: Endgame a perfect score with 5 out of 5 Reels.
Hopefully we didn’t make your ear holes bleed it’s just seriously such an incredible movie setting a new bar for the term blockbuster movie. Mike and Matt are not sure what they will review next week. Probably a Legacy cast and a Tributary. If you are itching to hear someone else talk for a while don’t forget to listen to our sister podcasts The Bluemilk Podcast and The Mile High Show. Chat at you next Tuesday!

Episode #108: Legacy - Fight Club
Thursday Apr 25, 2019
Thursday Apr 25, 2019
We are in the Endgame now listeners! Wow, bet you can’t tell that we are excited for a certain movie that is coming out tonight! To go along with this epic film we have another epic film from the late 90’s, Fight Club! Special topics today include Mike’s hate then love of Pitt, sweet tea or regular ice tea, and lastly of course AVENGERS:ENDGAME!!!!!!
I am sure you can already guess this if you have listened to a few of our podcasts up to this point. Basically Matt and Mike love this movie. The story is incredible and unexpected. The acting is on another level completely, from the entire cast not just Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. The cinematography and lighting is something to pay attention to. If you have not watched Fight Club or have not seen it for a long time do yourself a favor and go watch it in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary this year. I am sure you do not need to read this next sentence but here it is anyways. Matt and Mike both give Fight Club a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 Reels!
Next week it’s here, WOO-HOO! We will definitely have a double sized episode for Avengers: Endgame! There are tons and tons of reviews out already about it so if you can’t wait go check one of those out and yes we will still be reviewing it even though everyone and their mom already has. To get this out there now we will be spoiling it like we do with all our reviews. We will give you plenty of warning ahead of time so if you get spoiled it’s your own damn fault! Mike and Matt are crazy excited to talk about this one so expect two dudes geeking out big time. Chat at you next week with one giant pod instead of two.

Episode #107: Legacy - Cloud Atlas
Tuesday Apr 23, 2019
Tuesday Apr 23, 2019
Well it’s another Tuesday and that means another pod. Matt decided he didn’t want to leave our faithful listeners without a pod for today so he recorded a solocast. He actually didn’t have to work this weekend and decided to watch way too much Netflix including a film he has been trying to see for years, The Wachowskis’ epic Cloud Atlas. Bonus topics include closed captioning, missing Mike Talent, and listener numbers are slowly growing, whoop!
Cloud Atlas is a gorgeous movie that is difficult to pin down. It is confusing as hell but was shot and acted incredibly well. If you took maybe half as many stories and cut the time down on this film by almost an hour it probably would attract more viewers. Personally Matt could watch an entire movie based on a couple of the stories specifically one of the ones in the future. Cloud Atlas is enjoyable and worth a watch but maybe watch it in chunks much like your host did. He awards the film 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
We hope you enjoyed this quick solo cast by Matt. If you did or didn’t why not let us know, we mean Matt, ya Matt not us. Thanks for hanging in with us and don’t forget Avengers: Endgame comes out on Thursday!!! Chat at you Thursday with maybe Mike Talent about Fight Club, toodles.

Episode #106: The Best of Enemies
Thursday Apr 18, 2019
Thursday Apr 18, 2019
Thursday is again upon us and that means it’s podcast time! Today Mike Talent and Not Talented Matt discuss Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell’s newest film, The Best of Enemies. Special topics include hearing aids, Disney live action remakes, and movie goers still suck again!
The Best of Enemies is a good story but not the best movie. Mike enjoyed it a lot more than Matt. He thought it was a feel good movie with amazing acting and is a nice slow burn. Matt was not a big fan at all. He agrees the acting was incredible for most of the film but that is about all your hosts agreed on. The Best of Enemies was too long in his eyes and left out one side of the story more than the film should have. Mike gives the movie 3.5 out of 5 Reels and thinks if you are looking for a film to watch this weekend this is a good one to see. Matt on the other hand thinks you should wait until it comes out on a streaming service or hits Redbox. He gives the film 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Next week the guys might be on a bit of a hiatus or Matt might do a solo cast. The plan is to review one of both the host’s favorite films for a Legacy Cast, Fight Club but it might have to wait. Life gets in the way sometimes especially when your hosts are separated by almost an entire continent. We will see on Tuesday what happens or we won’t. Just know that Fight Club and Avengers: End Game will be reviewed very soon. Have a great weekend and thanks for your continued support of our podcast.

Episode #105: Shazam!
Tuesday Apr 16, 2019
Tuesday Apr 16, 2019
Hi everybody and welcome to your first Reel Film Nerds pod of the week! Today Mike Talent and Matt discuss a superhero movie. We know what you are thinking oh man they did a Legacy Cast on another MCU film but nope! The guys talk about their second DC movie of the year, Shazam! A little bit of a warning on this week’s pods, Matt has horrible allergies thanks to all the lovely Prescott junipers so he sounds very stuffy and sneezes a bit. Sorry, but hey at least he still sat down to record a couple of sodes. Extra special topics today include Disney+, taxes, the excellent Tom Hanks movie Big, and Ghostbusters.
Shazam! is a fun take on the superhero genre. It is literally every kid’s dream and many adults dreams too. The chemistry between Zachary Levi and Jack Dylan Grazer is fantastic especially the scenes when they are trying to figure out Shazam’s powers. This is a unique take on a superhero film that is not super serious like the upcoming Avengers: End Game. It is a nice breath of fresh air especially from DC. They are just knocking it out of the park with their last three films, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam! Is this movie going to win a bunch of awards, probably not but it is heck of a fun time. Mike Talent really enjoyed Shazam! awarding the film 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt also liked the original Captain Marvel film but not as much as Mike. He gives the movie 3.5 out of 5 Reels. They both recommend if you can to go watch this one in the theater. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks again for stopping by and downloading our pod. Thursday Matt and Mike discuss Sam Rockwell and Taraji P. Henson’s latest film The Best of Enemies. Don’t forget to check out our sister podcasts, The BlueMilk Podcast on the YouTube’s and The Mile High Show which can be found just about anywhere pods live. Episode #104: Tributary - The Highwaymen
Thursday Apr 11, 2019
Thursday Apr 11, 2019
Before we get going on your second pod of the week here is a fair warning. Matt and Mike really and I mean really get going on this pod. They chatted it up big time! If this annoys you then scroll down to our ratings and just skip this pod. Today the guys talk about a biopic based on the Texas Rangers who hunted down Bonnie and Clyde, the Netflix Original The Highwaymen. Just a few of the off topics today include Okilly Dokilly, high school, tattoos, and the many new streaming services.
The Highwaymen is an incredible film. The story is amazing and is one that is rarely ever told. The writing, direction, and of course that acting are fantastic as well. This film is the complete package with a great cast, beautiful sets, and shot extremely well. Basically if you have Netflix and have not watched this movie yet you are really doing yourself a disservice. Mike really enjoyed The Highwaymen and gives it 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt could not get enough of this movie. He is a giant history buff and film nerd to boot so of course he thought The Highwaymen was incredible. He gives it 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
Thanks again for stopping by and downloading our pod. Next week we review Shazam! and The Best of Enemies. Episode #103: Pet Sematary (2019)
Tuesday Apr 09, 2019
Tuesday Apr 09, 2019
The darkness of Tuesday has descended on the world once more and it brings with it another incredible episode of the Reel Film Nerds Podcast! Today the gents review yet another horror movie. Mike is just loving all of these horror releases and Matt well let’s just say Avengers: Endgame can’t get here soon enough. Today Mike Talent and not talented Matt discuss the 2019 reboot of Pet Sematary. Off topics include way too much “That’s What She Said,” Goose V Church, and Brightburn.
Pet Sematary is not horrible but it is not an incredible movie either. It drags especially in the first half. There are some really great fun creepy parts but they are too few and far between. The acting was incredible well most of the acting was incredible especially by Jeté Laurence. The sets are beautiful and the cinematography was great. But overall both of your hosts were disappointed. They really had high hopes for this remake and it did not live up to expectations. Mike thought Pet Sematary was just average giving it 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt was not impressed at all. He thought it was a lackluster attempt at a reboot. He enjoyed the acting but felt the film as a whole just dragged. He gives the film 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Thursday we talk about a new Netflix Original, Highwaymen starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. It is a biopic based on the two Texas Rangers who hunted down and killed infamous bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde in 1934. If you have Netflix give it a watch then tune in for our thoughts Thursday. Chat with you then.

Episode #102: Legacy - The Matrix
Thursday Apr 04, 2019
Thursday Apr 04, 2019
Happy Thursday Reel Film Nerds (You not us)! Today we review a truly nerdy and classic film in celebration of it’s 20th anniversary, The Matrix! The guys really geek out on this one and you get an almost bonus episode of a whole hour. It is not as bad of a rant as last week when Mr. Mile High Show was guest hosting for episode #99 but it is pretty close. Special topics include cell phones, Tesla’s, and how The Matrix paved the way for today’s action and superhero films especially the MCU.
The Matrix is an incredible ground breaking film. It has aged pretty well but there are a few missteps especially with the CGI. CGI was still pretty much in its infancy though so you can’t be too tough on the film. Mike Talent loves this movie almost as much as he loves Jaws and we all know how much he loves that film. Mike gives the Wachowski’s epic a perfect rating with 5 out of 5 Reels!!! Matt really loves The Matrix but noticed the age of the film a bit more than Mike. He was especially put off by the floating foam scene towards the end of the film. Matt still really loves it and awards The Matrix a 4.5 out of 5 Reels!
Next week the guys review another new horror movie! Ok it is a reboot but man does it look good, Stephen King’s Pet Cemetery. They will also be chatting about a brand new Netflix original starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, The Highwaymen based around the Bonnie and Clyde story. Don’t forget to write in and let us know how we are doing and send us your theories on Jordan Peele’s Us or any other film we have reviewed. Heck just send us any old question you have and we will read and answer it in a future pod. Thanks for tuning in for a super nerdy podcast and we will chat at you on Tuesday!

Episode #101: Us
Tuesday Apr 02, 2019
Tuesday Apr 02, 2019
Welcome back to your regularly scheduled podcast! Mike Talent has escaped the clutches of Goldfinger and returned to kick off the next 100 episodes of the Reel Film Nerds! We are a bit behind on our movies, but this movie really deserved to be reviewed by Mike Talent because of his obsession with horror films. Today the guys chat mostly about Jordan Peele’s Us. Bonus topics include Iceland, classic horror films, and The Big Lebowski.
Us is an incredible movie especially if you enjoy horror and thriller films. If you are not a fan of either of those genres you should probably skip this one. It will literally give you nightmares. The directing and writing by Jordan Peele were incredible! The acting especially by Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke was amazing as well. The story is even better! It has elements of past horror and sci-fi stories but told in a new unique way. There are tons of shout outs and homages to past horror and sci-fi films hidden throughout as well. Jordan Peele is lighting the horror world on fire with his first two feature length films and we can’t wait to see what he does next! Matt is super excited for the upcoming Twilight Zone that Peele is hosting and is heavily involved in. Problem is that it means subscribing to another streaming service. Isn’t this why everyone has ditched cable, so we didn’t have to pay for multiple services and just watch the shows we want now? Wow, that didn’t last long. The hosts both agree Us is an incredible film and is a must see in the theaters. They both give it 4 out of 5 Reels.
Coming up on Thursday is a special Legacy Cast, The Matrix, in honor of its 20th anniversary! The Matrix is currently streaming on Amazon Prime right now if you would like to watch or re-watch an amazing mind-bending film before your hosts chat about it. Thanks for stopping by and listening to our pod. What did you think of Us? Do you have any theories you want to share with your hosts? Email us and we will read them on an upcoming podcast. Have a great Tuesday and we will chat at you again this Thursday!
