Episode #286: Tributary - Thirteen Lives
Wednesday Aug 31, 2022
Wednesday Aug 31, 2022
Hi everyone! Well we had an interesting week, not just personally but also with the pod. Mike had some massive computer issues so we had to record this review twice. For Episode 286 Matt and Mike chat about the Ron Howard directed Amazon Original Thirteen Lives. Off topics today include $3 movies this Saturday, parents and getting old, and The Office.
This is an incredible story based on true events that took place just 4 years ago in Thailand. Thirteen Lives is a really good movie with great acting, technically beautiful cinematography, and incredible directing. What really makes this film amazing though is the story. The amount of work, care, and volunteering that went into saving these young boys is just incredible. What makes it a miracle is the risk everyone took to save them, how they did it, and that all thirteen boys were rescued successfully. A Thai Navy Seal lost his life in the cave and another died of a blood illness after the rescue was complete. Those two lost lives are tragic but it is still just incredible that those were the only losses.
Matt and Mike both agree Thirteen Lives is a very good film that is worth a watch. You can stream it on Amazon Prime video. The documentary on this miraculous story is available on Disney Plus. Your hosts both give Thirteen Lives 4 out of 5 Reels.
For next week's pod the new theater releases are pretty thin so Matt picked a Legacy film to review. The 1986 sci-fi classic Big Trouble in Little China. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #285: Tributary - Day Shift
Wednesday Aug 24, 2022
Wednesday Aug 24, 2022
Happy Wednesday friends and welcome to our little podcast. For today’s episode we review the new Netflix Original Day Shift starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco. Bonus topics today include minivans, Deadpool, and a new incredible giveaway you don’t want to miss.
Another week of not going to the theaters but hey at least we are getting new streaming films to review. Day Shift is not an incredible movie but it is a whole lot of fun. This action comedy horror film features Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco as vampire hunters in a very invested LA. The story is decent, the acting is good, but where this film falls flat is the comedy. There is a good amount but just not enough. Shout out to Snoop Dogg for not playing himself in a film and really trying to act. He still needs a lot of work but good job Snoop! Day Shift is not a must watch film but if you are looking for something new on Netflix give it a go. Mike finally back to form gives the movie 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also returns to his kind ways awarding Day Shift 3 out of 5 Reels.
Next week the streaming reviews continue but on a third different service in as many weeks with Amazon Prime Video. The guys sit down to watch the incredible true story Thirteen Lives directed by Ron Howard. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #284: Tributary - Prey
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Hello everyone and welcome to another movie review from two big nerds! Today Mike and Matt chat about a movie that should have come out in the theaters, Prey. Not practically invincible aliens include Legion, new RFN drinking game, and Star Wars toys.
This is at least two films in a row, maybe more where your hosts were just blown away! Prey is a very good film. Its biggest drawback is that it wasn’t released in the theaters! Prey is a prequel to the Predator series of films, comics, etc. that takes place in the 1700’s. The story is great, the acting is great, especially our lead Amber Midthunder, and the scenery/cinematography is out of this world. Dan Trachtenberg not only knows how to shoot a film he is clearly passionate about Predator(1987) and honors it with this film. Mike and Matt both agree that Prey is a must see film. Mike two weeks in a row awards Prey 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand awards the flick a still great 3.5 out of 5 Reels. He really wanted it to be on the big screen.
Next week the guys continue their streaming service catch up but with Netflix Original Film. Day Shift starring Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, and Snoop Dogg is an action, horror, comedy about hunting vampires of course! Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #283: Bullet Train
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
Happy hump day boys and girls! For today’s podcast, Episode 283, Mike and Matt chat about Davd Leitch’s latest film Bullet Train starring a ton of people but especially Brad Pitt. Not Pitt topics include a new giveaway, Stranger Things Season 4, and critics suck.
What a fitting end or near end to the summer blockbuster season. Bullet Train rocketed out of nowhere and I am glad it did. It is a fun action packed assassin movie with a great story. Did we mention the cast yet? There are so many great actors in this film and even a few surprise cameos we can’t name them all. They did a great job playing to their characters strengths and weaknesses and making us laugh. The way the story was told was stylistic and funny. Very reminiscent of Smoking Aces, Snatch, or even Grosse Pointe Blank. The action scenes and fight choreography are on another level thanks to Director David Leitch’s former career as a stunt double and coordinator.
Mike and Matt both agree this is a must see film especially in the theaters. Matt really loved the film awarding it 4 out of 5 Reels. Mike really really really loved Bullet Train giving it a near perfect rating of 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
Next pod we hit the streaming services to catch the Hulu Original Prey, a prequel to one of the 80’s greatest sci-fi horror action movies Predator. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #282: Tributary - The Gray Man
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Welcome listeners new and old! For Episode #282 the guys sit down and chat about the Russo brother’s latest Netflix Original The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Bonus topics today include abs, La-Z-Boys, and Man on Fire (2004).
Netflix continues to put out big action films to compete with the traditional movie theater type studios. The Gray Man follows many of their leads with being a spy action thriller full of tropes and a lackluster story. This movie is long and drawn out, especially the first half. There are some excellent action sequences but there are also some that just really didn’t need to exist. They did not advance the story at all. It was more of a hey let's see how much money we can spend. Chris Evans as the villain was excellent and unexpected. Ryan Gosling as our hero came across as cold and boring. Is The Gray Man something you should watch, Mike and Matt say maybe. It’s not incredible but how many popcorn action flicks are? They are just a fun time with explosions, danger, and gun fights. Matt and Mike agree again, awarding The Gray Man 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week we hit the theater for another action flick with Brad Pitt’s latest assassin film Bullet Train directed by David Leitch. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #281: Nope
Wednesday Jul 27, 2022
Wednesday Jul 27, 2022
Welcome friends and neighbors to another episode of the Reel Film Nerds podcast. Today Mike and Matt chat about Jordan Peele’s latest thriller Nope starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. Off topics include a new Blu-ray giveaway, Mike is secretly 0069, and sky Jaws.
Jordan Peele’s third film Nope is an unexpected sci-fi thriller that caught both of your hosts off guard. It is a great original story that takes almost half the runtime to get on its feet but when it does man is it good! The acting especially by Kaluuya and Palmer is excellent. They play completely opposite personality types but have wonderful chemistry as brother and sister in the film. The cinematography is decent but the night scenes are where Nope is in a class of its own. It is very difficult to film in the dark and make it look good and this movie does it better than just about anyone. Matt and Mike both agree this is a must see flick in the theaters. They both award Nope 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week we hit the streaming services to check out a Netflix Original spy thriller The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #280: Legacy - Last Night in Soho
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
It’s hump day baby, guess what that means? YES, yet another Reel Film Nerds incredible podcast movie review. For pod #280 Mike and Matt review a film from last October that they missed in theaters, Last Night in Soho. Not ghost story topics include MCU confusion, panhandling, and Better Call Saul.
This is a unique horror film. It is a mystery, ghost story, haunted house, and time travel voyage all rolled into one. Last Night in Soho isn’t terrible but it isn’t earth shattering either. The acting is great, the sets look really good, and the cinematography is amazing, especially the use of color. The movie just really should have been better. It is down right tedious with its pacing. The ending is the nicest and best surprise of the film. It has a big twist that caught both of your hosts off guard and that’s rare. If you are looking for a film that’s a little unique and scary to watch, Last Night in Soho is worth a glance. If you aren’t then no big loss. Your hosts are grateful they did not see this one in the theaters. Mike returns to form as the harsh host awarding the flick 2 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand enjoyed it but agrees the movie is lacking especially horror elements. He awards Last Night in Soho 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s film review, if Mike can skip out for two hours of his third vacation of the year, yes third! We will be chatting about Jordan Peele’s latest thriller NOPE starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #279: Thor: Love and Thunder
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Welcome back boys and girls to your regularly scheduled podcast. Today Matt and Mike chat about the second Marvel Cinematic Universe film of 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder. Not Viking space god topics include Slash, Barrio Brewing Company, and large noggins.
Thor: Love and Thunder is a fine addition to the MCU, according to Mike. Matt found it to be just OK. He had much higher hopes for the film from the comedic genius Taika Waititi. The shining star of this film is Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. He was creepy, looked amazing, and just an all around scary villain. Natalie Portman reprising her role as Jane Foster after 9 was really a great addition as The Mighty Thor AKA Lady Thor. Waititi even stayed true to the source material for Jane Foster’s Thor (SPOILERS, so just go watch the movie). If you are a huge Marvel nut like we are at the RFN podcast then this is a must see film! Mike with a great score awards Thor: Love and Thunder 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt a huge Thor and Marvel thought this film was mediocre at best. He awards it 3 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s review Matt of all hosts picked a horror movie to chat about. Edgar Wright’s first horror film Last Night in Soho just dropped on HBO Max. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #278: Tributary - Hustle (2022)
Friday Jul 08, 2022
Friday Jul 08, 2022
Welcome everyone to a late Reel Film Nerds Podcast. Episode #278 is a few days late because of the holiday and Matt being out of town. It’s here now and the guys chat about a great new Netflix Original film Hustle (2022) starring Adam Sandler. Not basketball topics include fireworks, sleep drinking, and Independence Day.
We will keep this short since the pod is already behind and your hosts want you to listen to it, not read about it. Hustle (2022) is a great film with stellar acting, an amazing story, and a genuine down to earth feel. It is a sports film but both of your hosts, not being huge sports fans, still loved it. It is one of the best Netflix Originals to be released to date. Adam Sandler needs to stop making horrible slapstick comedies and keep making amazing films like this. Mike with a rare perfect score awards Hustle (2022) 5 out of 5 Reels. Matt not far behind also loved this film and thinks everyone should see it, he awards it 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s review the boys head to the theaters to watch the second MCU film of 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #277: Elvis (2022)
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Happy almost 4th of July everyone! For Reel Film Nerds Podcast 277 Mike and Matt sit down and chat about the newest musician biopic, Elvis (2022) starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. Not King related topics include In N Out Burger, Money Pit, and Rock and Roll class.
The summer of 2022 is really strong with great films and Elvis (2022) is one of them. The storytelling of this infamous rockstar is very different but in a good way. It’s told from the perspective of Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker, the villain of the film. Tom Hanks who plays Parker did an incredible job as always but Austin Butler, wow, just WOW! Butler really brought Elvis to life with his singing, dancing, and off stage mannerisms and coyness. The biggest complaints your hosts had for Elvis (2022) is the length of the film, inaccuracies of Elvis’ life, and parts of his past that could have been elaborated on. Overall Mike and Matt loved the film and recommend you run out and see it in the theaters. Elvis (2022) earns a great rating of 4 out of 5 Reels from both hosts.
For next week’s review Mike decided to stay home and pick a Netflix Original film starring Adam Sandler, Hustle (2022). Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #276: The Northman
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Welcome everyone to our little movie review podcast. For today’s 276th episode, Mike and Matt backtrack a bit and review a film from April 2022, The Northman starring Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Not Viking topics include being a freak, religion (I know they shouldn’t have), and sparkling water.
Let's just get this out of the way right now, The Northman is not a film for everyone. It is a very well made action period revenge film with beautiful sets, costumes, and cinematography. This is not a bad movie, it just kind of drags on and on at times. There are a handful of visions or dreams sprinkled throughout the film that can be very confusing to the viewer as well. The cast is excellent and they all brought their unique skills to the screen. If you are looking for a well made, well acted, and well shot revenge epic then this film is not to be missed. Matt and Mike agree, awarding The Northman 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
Next week Matt makes the guys hit the theater to check out Tom Hanks’ latest film Elvis starring Austin Butler, Hanks, and Olivia DeJonge. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #275: Jurassic World: Dominion
Wednesday Jun 15, 2022
Wednesday Jun 15, 2022
Happy Wednesday fellow movie lovers! For today’s amazing podcast we review a not so amazing film, Jurassic World: Dominion. Non dinosaur related topics include Quake, MySpace, and Rammstein.
Matt and Mike had really high hopes for Jurassic World: Dominion but they were quickly smashed after the first 5 minutes. Is Jurassic World: Dominion a bad film, yes. It is a blockbuster with tons and tons of action but one of the biggest let downs is the story, it’s just awful. One of the main plot points doesn’t even involve dinosaurs, seriously! The original characters were totally not needed in this film except Ian Malcolm of course. They are in the film to drive more viewers to the theater and it worked for opening weekend. Jurassic World: Dominion finished first at the box office.
We are sorry to say but Mike and Matt both agree Jurassic World: Dominion is not worth your time or money. When it hits a streaming service maybe but Mike is the only one that thinks that. Matt graciously awards the film 2 out of 5 Reels mostly from nostalgia. Mike with the rare higher score gives it 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s incredible podcast the guys stay home and watch a film they missed in the theaters this past spring, The Northman. It’s currently streaming on Peacock. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #274: Tributary - All the Old Knives
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Hello listeners and welcome back to our little pod! For today’s review Mike and Matt chat about the Amazon Original All the Old Knives. Not spy thriller topics include The Boys Season 3, Only Fans, and slinging tacos.
Do you like spy thrillers loaded with twists and turns that are told completely by flashbacks? Well if you do then All the Old Knives is the perfect film for you. Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton are the shining stars of this film. Their acting is excellent. Laurence Fishburne and Jonathan Pryce also did a great job for the minute or maybe minute and a half they are in the film. All the Old Knives is not a bad movie, it's just nothing special. We have seen this story before, told in as interesting if not more interesting ways. If you are a huge fan of spy thrillers then this is a must watch. If not then it’s a pass. Matt awards the film 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Mike with a smidge lower rating gives All the Old Knives 2 out of 5 Reels.
Guess what kids we are definitely hip deep in summer blockbusters! For next week Mike and Matt head back to the theaters to catch the latest Jurassic Park sequel Jurassic World: Dominion. Thanks for listening and we will chat with you next week!

Episode #273: Top Gun: Maverick
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Welcome everyone to the month of June! Today Mike and Matt chat about the highly anticipated 36 year sequel Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Miles Teller. Not air combat training topics include Mike is sick, Happy 80th Ma Hinshaw, and The Boys Season 3.
Top Gun: Maverick had super high hopes especially being pushed back multiple years thanks to everyone’s new best friend COVID. Mike and Matt are happy to report that it delivered and then some! Top Gun: Maverick is a must see film in the theaters. It is shot incredibly well, has intense action, and a great story. The technical prowess to deliver such incredible real life flying shots is astonishing to say the least. There is also a lovely tribute to Val Kilmer/Iceman. We are not going to spoil anything but we sure do in the podcast. Go see this movie and bring your family and friends, it’s worth it! Matt with a record shattering two perfect ratings in a row gives Top Gun: Maverick 5 out of 5 Reels. Mike, back to his old tricks, drops it down a notch awarding the film 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s podcast Mike and Matt take a break from high flying jets and the movie theaters to review the Amazon Original All the Old Knives starring Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #272: Legacy - Top Gun
Wednesday May 25, 2022
Wednesday May 25, 2022
Do you have a need, a need for speed? Well then we have a podcast for you! Today in preparation for the new Top Gun Maverick, Matt and Mike sit down and chat about the 1986 original Top Gun. Starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Kelly McGillis. Not air combat training topics include call signs, new Top Gun school, and global politics in movies.
What can we say about the 1980’s naval aviator classic that hasn’t been said before, not much as we found out in the pod. Top Gun is an amazing movie! Yes it shows its age but in your host's opinions it holds up well. Top Gun was shot well, acted well, had a great story, and even won an Oscar for best original song! Right now is a great time to re-watch this classic with your kids, friends, or loved ones before the sequel drops on Friday. Mike and Matt both agree Top Gun is a 5 Reel film all the way! It is a must watch piece of cinematic history especially if you are a fan of flying or beach volleyball.
For next week’s podcast Mike and Matt head to the theaters to finally watch Top Gun Maverick starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. It was only supposed to be released in 2019 after all. Not that Matt’s anxious or anything, HA! Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #271: Firestarter (2022)
Wednesday May 18, 2022
Wednesday May 18, 2022
Welcome kiddos to the Reel Film Nerds Episode #271 not an MCU movie! Today Mike picked a remake of a Steven King novel and film Firestarter (2022) starring Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Not telepathic fire related topics include beer-mosa, bullying, and Baywatch the Movie.
Firestarter (2022) is a mediocre at best remake of a good thriller/horror film from 1984. The acting and chemistry between Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong is fantastic but that’s about all this film has going for it. The story is just awful and confusing. There are moments where what little story there is just drags. The 1984 film’s story excels in comparison to its 2022 counterpart. The CGI, stunts, and action sequences are pretty good but there just aren’t enough to keep you engaged. Mike and Matt both agree this movie is not worth watching in the theaters and maybe not at all. If you have Peacock and like Steven King then maybe it would be OK. Mike awards it 2.5 Reels out of 5. Matt with the low score again gives Firestarter (2022) 2 out of 5 Reels.

Episode #270: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Happy Wednesday boys and girls! Today Mike and Matt review their first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not MCU topics include Dirty Dancing, future giveaways, and Wired’s Autocomplete Interviews.
Two multiverse films in 3 weeks? Wow what are the chances, well in 2022 very good. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees the return of iconic Marvel and horror film director Sam Raimi to the superhero genre, it was a perfect fit. This film is dark, sinister, and kinda gory. It is the first somewhat horror film for the MCU. Elizabeth Olson steals the show with her portrayal of Scarlet Witch. Benedict Cumberbatch delivers again as Doctor Strange but Wanda is just amazing!
This film was a lot of fun but it was not as insane or mad as it should be. Raimi could really stretch out and get nuts with this film but he doesn’t. Matt blames Disney oversight for not letting him stretch his creative muscles. Mike and Matt both agree the first 2022 MCU entry is a fun, dark, and exciting ride that’s worth a watch. They both award Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 4 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s podcast Mike picked a Stephen King horror movie remake Firestarter starring Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #269: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Wednesday May 04, 2022
Wednesday May 04, 2022
May the Fourth be with you! Yes it’s that time of year again for the fake national Star Wars day. Listen to the pod, Matt explains. Today the guys discuss the latest Nicolas Cage movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Bonus Sith topics include IPA addicts, Top Gun Maverick is coming, and The Rock for President.
Have you ever wanted to see the most Nicolas Cage movie Nicolas Cage has ever made, yes? Then The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a not miss film. This meta comedy stars Nicolas Cage as Nick Cage channeling his many roles over the years. Cage is hired by a rich superfan, Javi played by Pedro Pascal, to attend his birthday party. The film quickly turns into its own action thriller as the CIA and drug lords get involved.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a really fun adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Pedro Pascal and Nicolas Cage have excellent chemistry and clearly had a blast filming this movie. Is this flick for everyone, no, but it is well worth a watch especially fans of action, comedy, and Nick Cage. Mike and Matt both agree The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent earns a respectable 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s podcast we continue going to the theaters (for those of you counting that’s 3 weeks in a row!) to catch the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #268: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Wednesday Apr 27, 2022
Wednesday Apr 27, 2022
The month of April is quickly coming to a close and we are ending it with a bang. Today Matt and Mike discuss the sleeper Sci-Fi multiverse hit, Everything Everywhere All at Once. Not multiverse topics include potty training, generation gaps, and David Carradine.
I am going to keep this one quick because it’s late and I don’t want to spoil too much of the pod or the film. Everything Everywhere All at Once is a very special film. It is creative, original, artistic, and has fantastic acting. This film is the complete package. The only issue with this movie is that it’s not for everyone. Older generations, at least Ma Hinshaw, had a difficult time understanding the multiverse and how the story worked. Sometimes these amazing Sci-Fi films can be too far out there and mind bending for viewers. Don’t let that scare you off from one heck of an interesting, zany, and fun ride.
Mike and Matt both agree Everything Everywhere All at Once is a must watch film. Mike awards it a rare perfect rating of 5 out of 5 Reels. Matt drops it half a Reel because the film isn’t for everyone giving it 4.5 out of 5 Reels.

Episode #267: Tributary - Metal Lords
Wednesday Apr 20, 2022
Wednesday Apr 20, 2022
Happy 420 everyone! If Matt and Mike planned ahead they would have reviewed a stoner flick but they didn’t. Instead Matt picked a metal movie the Netflix Original Metal Lords. Not 420 topics include high school bullying, Roomba, and Big Trouble in Little China.
Are you yearning for a metal based coming of age story? Then boy do we have a film for you! Metal Lords’ story is nothing special. It has been told over and over many times. A group of teenagers get together to form a band to compete in their school’s battle of the bands for money and or recognition. Lots of antics ensue and by the end of the film the teens work together to win, right? No spoilers but yep that is pretty much Metal Lords in a nutshell but again it's METAL!!!!!!!
This film is a lot of fun especially the soundtrack, cameo’s, and bipolar cellist. If you want to reminisce about high school while rocking out to some awesome metal then this film is for you. It’s not at the level of Super Bad but it is still a great film. Mike gives Metal Lords 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand thought it was just average because of the story awarding it 3 out of 5 Reels.
For next week's podcast Mike takes us back to the theaters to catch a mid budget film that is making huge waves, Everything Everywhere All at Once. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #266: Ambulance (2022)
Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
Happy almost tax day everyone! Yes it’s the worst time of the year, enough about that, we are here to talk movies. Today Mike and Matt chat about the latest Bay Bang Ambulance (2022) starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González. Not emergency vehicle related topics include FPV drones, Speed, and Mike falling asleep.
Man was it nice to see a huge over the top action chase thriller on the big screen. Ambulance (2022) is not Micahel Bay’s best work, let’s be honest nothing comes close to The Rock, but it is one of his best films in years. Ambulance (2022) is an edge of your seat thrill ride with incredible action, amazing camera work, and great acting especially from Gyllenhaal and Abdul-Mateen II. They have incredible chemistry from start to finish. The film can get long at times with the same concept running over and over but did we mention how incredible the action is? Matt and Mike both agree Ambulance (2022) is well worth the watch especially on the big screen. They both award the film 4 out of 5 Reels
For next week’s podcast Matt gives us a break from the theaters to catch the new Netflix Original Metal Lords starring Jaeden Martell, Adrian Greensmith, and Isis Hainsworth. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #265: Morbius
Wednesday Apr 06, 2022
Wednesday Apr 06, 2022
Welcome kiddos to another Reel Film Nerds pod! Today Matt and Mike chat about the latest Sony Marvel movie Morbius starring Jared Leto and Matt Smith. Additional topics include a new movie giveaway, the Sinister Six, and film drones.
Well we have a rare but fun occurrence, Mike and Matt really do not agree on Morbius. Mike thinks it’s an adequate blockbuster style film that was enjoyable but not a must see. Matt on the other hand does not understand why this movie exists. He really did not like it at all and can’t recommend anyone to go see it.
Michael Morbius, played by Jared Leto, is attempting to cure his lifelong crippling disease by experimenting with bat DNA. Things go horribly awry, turning himself into a blood thirsty vampire. There are some redeeming qualities in Morbius, the acting by Leto and co-star Smith is actually very good. The story is the major issue with this film. It’s very lackluster, uninspired, and boring. Mike awards Morbius 3 out of 5 Reels while Matt awards it half that, 1.5 out of 5 Reels.

Episode #264: Tributary - Windfall
Wednesday Mar 30, 2022
Wednesday Mar 30, 2022
Check it out everyone I think we are back on track for a bit with two pods in a row. This week Matt and Mike continue their voyage into new Netflix Originals with the suspenseful thriller Windfall starring Jason Segel, Lily Collins, Jesse Plemons, and Omar Leyva. Bonus topics today include Blanton’s, Alfred Hitchcock, and the Oscars.
Are you looking for something a little different? A film that makes you ask questions instead of receiving answers? If your answer is a yes then Windfall is for you. The new Netflix Original is not a bad movie but is not an incredible one either. There are lots of great elements such as the set, the acting, and some storytelling. Windfall is just so dang drawn out and downright boring it might be a pass.
A very wealthy couple goes to their vacation home for the weekend and walks in on a man robbing them when they arrive. Both parties are spooked and chaos quickly ensues. Mike thought Windfall was just OK giving it 2 out of 5 Reels. Matt agreed with Mike that it’s not a must watch film. He gives Windfall 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s podcast Matt takes us back to the theaters to review the predicted train wreck Morbius starring Jared Leto. The guys will let you know if it’s worth spending your hard earned money on it or not. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #263: Double Feature - CODA and The Adam Project
Wednesday Mar 23, 2022
Wednesday Mar 23, 2022
We are back everyone! Sorry about the last minute cancellation but the guys had some personal and family things to tend to. Don’t worry though today you get a double feature with their reviews of CODA and The Adam Project! Bonus topics today include Tesla, a new movie giveaway, and allergies suck!
I will do my best not to write too much, it's getting late and I do need to get to bed. The Apple Original CODA is an absolutely incredible film. The acting, the story, everything is just so wonderful and heartfelt. This film should win the Academy Award for Best Picture but we all know that it won’t because well it’s not weird. CODA is a coming of age story for a high school senior looking to go to college for singing but her entire family is deaf except her. This adds many challenges that most of us would never even contemplate let alone understand. Mike and Matt both agree this is a must see film awarding it 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
Our second review of the pod is the new Netflix Original The Adam Project starring Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. This is a fun sci-fi summer blockbuster kind of film with some heart thrown in for good measure. Time travel has been invented and Ryan Reynolds must team up with his younger self to save mankind from impending doom oh and rescue his wife who is trapped in the past. This film was just a lot of fun. It is nothing special but just a really good time with great acting, special effects, and a tried and true story with lightsabers, kind of. Mike and Matt agree this is well worth the watch if you have a Netflix subscription. If not, go over to a friend's house and watch it with them. Mike with the surprise higher rating gives The Adam Project 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt really enjoyed the movie too but thought it was just average. He awards The Adam Project 3 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s podcast, if we can keep our crap together, we continue catching up on new Netflix Originals with Mike’s pick Windfall starring Jason Segel, Lily Collins, and Jesse Plemons. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!

Episode #262: The Batman (2022)
Thursday Mar 10, 2022
Thursday Mar 10, 2022
Happy Thursday everyone? Yep sorry about that but Matt was out of town for work so the guys are a day late and definitely more than a dollar short. For today’s review we chat about The Batman (2022) starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz. Not bat topics include concerts, comic artist Dave Beaty, and Oscar predictions.
I am not sure if the world really needed another incarnation of Batman after Christopher Nolan and Christen Bale’s incredible trilogy but hey we got one anyways. The Batman (2022) is a great film with a stellar cast, amazing story, and gritty cinematography but man is it long. This is not your typical superhero action flick. Yes there is action in this movie but it is more of a detective noir akin to the DC Detective comics. It's a breath of fresh air in a time where superhero CGI action rules the box office. Robert Pattison did a good job as Batman but especially Bruce Wayne. The real standout though was Colin Farrell, wow just wow Colin!
Matt and Mike agree The Batman (2022) is a great film but it is not a must watch unless you are big into Batman, DC, or superheroes. It will be streaming on HBO Max soon enough. Matt back to form really liked The Batman (2022) awarding it 4 out of 5 Reels. Mike on the other hand thought it was good but very slow, lengthy, and boring at times. He awards it 3.5 out of 5 Reels.
For next week’s podcast Mike wants to continue our Best Picture nominee watchlist with the Apple TV+ Original CODA starring Emilia Jones and Marleee Martin. Thanks for listening and reading to the end of our show notes. Chat at you next week!
