Episode #61: Harvest Horror Fest - Cabin in the Woods
Thursday Nov 01, 2018
Thursday Nov 01, 2018
Well listeners we are sorry to say but the end is here but man is it an amazing end! For the final episode of Harvest Horror Fest 2018 your hosts Mike and Matt discuss the comedy horror flick Cabin in the Woods. This is one of our longer episodes but sit tight it is fun and worth a listen. Topics include Marvel, horror tropes, Joss Whedon, Thor, Signals AZ, and we have more than 4 listeners? How did that happen?
Cabin in the Woods is a near perfect blend of two genres. It is fun, dramatic, and exciting to name a few. The acting is stellar especially the little known actors that star in this film. The story is really where Cabin in the Woods shines though. This is a must watch film for everyone. Mike really enjoyed it and awards the movie a near perfect score with 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt truly loves Cabin in the Woods even though he is not a huge horror movie guy. He drops the elusive perfect score with 5 out of 5 Reels! Seriously if you have not seen Cabin in the Woods do yourself a favor and watch it.
Just a reminder listeners the coming week or two might be a little light on the podcast front. Mike is having a lot of life things happening that I guess are more important than watching movies. Matt will also be busy with regular work and the NAZ Suns 2018-19 season starting but he is going to try his hardest to record a few shows solo or with some special guests. Thanks for tuning in and we hope you enjoyed Harvest Horror Fest! We did so expect it to become an annual event. Have a great weekend and welcome to November!

Episode #60: A Star Is Born
Tuesday Oct 30, 2018
Tuesday Oct 30, 2018
Welcome faithful followers to another prodigious podcast of the Reel Film Nerds hosted by your buddies Mysterious Mike and Matt Hinshaw. Today the movie geeks discuss what will probably be an Academy Award winning film, A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Matt and Mike really dive deep into this film both being not only movie aficionados but also huge music fans. They talk about the music industry, addiction, Metallica, their home state of Arizona, and this thing called the radio that is like podcasting but through the air?
A Star Is Born is an incredible directorial debut for Bradley Cooper. The song choice and the singing were real treats and not to be missed. Lady Gaga did an incredible job acting. It was almost like this role was written for her. Bonus tip there is a documentary about Lady Gaga on Netflix called Gaga: Five Foot Two that is a nice companion piece to this film. Mike and Matt both really enjoyed A Star Is Born. They line up on their rating again awarding it 4 out of 5 Reels. This movie is well worth the money so make sure to go see it in a theater.
Thanks for listening and following us on the socials. Your hosts will be back on Thursday with the final installment of this year’s Harvest Horror Fest. They will be talking about an incredible underrated film titled Cabin in the Woods. Have and incredible Halloween! Now go out and catch a horror movie to end this amazing month of frights!

Episode #59: Harvest Horror Fest - Event Horizon
Thursday Oct 25, 2018
Thursday Oct 25, 2018
Harvest Horror Fest is quickly ending but not quite yet. Today Mysterious Mike and Masterful Matt talk about one of their favorite sci-fi/horror films ever Event Horizon! Topics include isolation, haunted houses, The Matrix, Jurassic Park, and of course space.
Event Horizon is an incredible must-see film especially if you are a horror or sci-fi buff. It is claustrophobic and thrilling. The CGI needs some help, but it is a 21-year-old movie. The other visuals and sets are amazing especially the gravity drive. The makeup and gore are very well done and do nothing but elevate this horror film. Matt and Mike are starting to click again maybe too much. They both give Event Horizon 4.5 out of 5 Reels!
Thanks for your continued support and make sure to share our pod if you like it or not! Mike and Matt will return on Tuesday with our review of a probable big time Academy Award contender A Star is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Episode #58: Halloween (2018)
Tuesday Oct 23, 2018
Tuesday Oct 23, 2018
We have a two-fer for you today! Exciting isn’t it? Today your hosts discuss Halloween 2018 and the original from 1978. The guys stay pretty much on topic discussing horror film tropes, Michael Myers as a villain, and journalism. Was Mysterious Mike able to keep his streak going with the MCU? You will have to tune in to find out!
Halloween 2018 is a great fresh spin on a horror classic. Michael Myers is scary and menacing to say the least. Jamie Lee Curtis’ take on her first starring role Laurie Strode 40 years later is incredible! Her acting is amazing and how the writers decided to write her was even better. Matt really enjoyed Halloween 2018 but not as much as the original or as much as Mike, of course. He gives it 3 out of 5 Reels. He loves the original without question. It setup an entire generation of slasher horror films. Matt gives the original Halloween 1978 4.5 out of 5 Reels!! Mike really enjoyed the latest version of Halloween more than he expected. He awards it 3.5 out of 5 Reels. The guys both agreed that the original is still better and just an all around incredible ground breaking film. Mike gives Halloween 1978 4.5 out of 5 Reels as well!
Thanks for listening and make sure you catch Halloween 2018 in the theaters unless you hate horror movies or the Halloween series. It is well worth the price of admission. We will be back on Thursday with another horror film for our month long Harvest Horror Fest when the guys talk about one of their favorites a sci-fi horror movie, Event Horizon. Have a great week.

Episode #57: Harvest Horror Fest - From Dusk Till Dawn
Thursday Oct 18, 2018
Thursday Oct 18, 2018
Hooray, Harvest Horror Fest continues today with a fun classic and goofy horror film From Dusk Till Dawn!! The guys talk about their first time seeing the film when they were kids especially Quentin Tarantino’s character and how terrible and creepy he is. The guys get off topic pretty hard but it’s after the spoilers warning so it’s ok. Matt tried really hard to be funny about Ryan Reynolds and it fails miserably on Mike but it does lead to a discussion about beautiful women actresses. Other off topics included Southpark, Salma Hayek, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, fighter pilots, and being tall.
From Dusk Till Dawn is a fun brutal vampire movie. The acting is good, the special effects and makeup is great, and the story is very ridiculous but fun especially the vampire band and Salma Hayek’s snake. Matt gives the film a respectable 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Mike is a bit more judgmental giving From Dusk Till Dawn a solid 3 out of 5 Reels. It is not a must see film but it is very entertaining so basically if you are into horror films, Quentin Tarantino, or Robert Rodriguez you might as well watch it.
Make sure to join us next Thursday with the continuation of our month long Harvest Horror Fest when the boys chat about the sci-fi horror flick Event Horizon. We have not picked what new movie we are going to review on Tuesday but I promise we are going to do something. Don’t forget to share our podcast with your friends maybe not this episode but one of the good ones yeah that’s but which sode is a good one? Talk at ya on Tuesday!!!

Episode #56: First Man
Tuesday Oct 16, 2018
Tuesday Oct 16, 2018
Salutations everyone and welcome to your first Reel Film Nerds podcast of the week! Today your hosts talk about a film with a subject matter that is near and dear to their hearts, space exploration! Today your hosts dive into the dramatic telling of Neil Armstrong’s life as an astronaut ending with him landing on the moon. The guys really get going and talk a lot about this movie and everything that surrounds it including the X-15, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo missions, and the movie versus real life.
Mike and Matt both love this movie without question. They might be bias though since they both love space exploration. The acting is incredible by both Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy. The film is also very well done especially the scenes on the moon. It is tense and thrilling and keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The filmmakers also cover a topic rarely seen on the big screen the family of Neil Armstrong and what they go though during his time as an astronaut. Matt and Mike both give First Man 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt thinks it is one of the top movies of the year and if it is not an Academy Award contender he would be shocked.
Thanks for listening and we will chat at you on Thursday with our Harvest Horror Fest review of From Dusk Till Dawn. P.S. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family about us but only if you like our little pod.

Episode #55: Harvest Horror Fest - Trick 'r Treat
Thursday Oct 11, 2018
Thursday Oct 11, 2018
Harvest Horror Fest continues!! Today Mysterious Mike presents his first solo cast, Trick ‘r Treat. It is sweet, quick, and to the point. This pod compensates for the multiple 30-minute plus podcasts lately. Mike talks about his upcoming trip to Universal Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights, Netflix still has DVD’s, and Bad Santa. He mostly stays on topic though.
Trick ‘r Treat is a fun horror movie that Mike should have seen by now but hasn’t. It is 5 stories in one that all happen on Halloween night. It has a stellar cast with good acting and will be a cult classic for years to come. Mysterious Mike gives the film an average rating of 3 out of 5 Reels.
Thanks everyone for listening. There are a ton of movies coming out this month and Matt and Mike are still arguing on which ones to do reviews on. If they had time they would just do a podcast a day, too bad they are both working stiffs and don’t have the time. This Tuesday look forward to a review of either A Star is Born, First Man, or Bad Times at the El Royale. Chat at you next Tuesday and remember Harvest Horror Fest continues next Thursday with another cult classic horror film.

Episode #54: Venom
Tuesday Oct 09, 2018
Tuesday Oct 09, 2018
Wow do we have an incredible podcast for you today! The guys have a super special guest who has extensive knowledge on the source material for the film we reviewed, Sony’s latest Marvel film Venom! Bonus trivia this is our guest’s first podcast ever and Mike and Matt thought he did a fantastic job! The three hosts stay on topic just about the whole pod even though it ends up running long. That 30 minute rule seems to be broken a lot lately. Topics include everyone’s favorite Venom host, the Venom trailer vs. the movie, Natural Born Killers, Spiderman, and of course the Venom comic book vs. the movie.
Venom was a fun action packed movie that dragged a bit during the first half of the film. The CGI was incredible, the story was fun, and the villains were great! Our special guest known as Lumberjack Michael is an absolute Venom fanatic and gave the movie 4.5 out of 5 Reels!!!! He does really love Venom like no one Mike or Matt has ever met! Mysterious Mike was surprised by the film and just like Matt does not understand why the critics are tearing it apart. It is not a ground breaking movie but it is not hot garbage either. Mike gives Venom 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt probably for the first time ever gave a lower rating than Mike! He gives this antihero film 3 out of 5 Reels. He really wanted this movie to be rated R and it wasn’t. Deadpool, his favorite comic character’s films are rated R and have done gang busters at the box office so why not make a Venom movie properly and rate it R?
This Thursday Harvest Horror Fest continues with a surprise, even for Matt, first ever solo cast by Mysterious Mike! He reviews the 2007 horror film Trick ‘r Treat. Thanks for hanging out with us and Mike will chat at you on Thursday!

Episode #53: Harvest Horror Fest - Tusk
Thursday Oct 04, 2018
Thursday Oct 04, 2018
Welcome everyone to the kick off of what hopefully will become an annual event, the Reel Film Nerds’ Harvest Horror Fest! Our first pick is probably our worst pick, but Matt tricked Mike anyways because he is a dick like that. Today the boys discuss the disaster of a horror film Tusk by famed writer and director Kevin Smith. The guys get off topic as always but some of the topics do relate more than others. They discuss the Sixth Sense, going to the bathroom during a movie, production company A24, Chasing Amy, and why can’t we have DVR movie theaters?
Tusk is just flat out a horrible movie and you really should not watch it unless you are insanely bored, insanely!!!! It is not even hilariously bad, it’s just bad period. Mike wanted to give it 0 Reels, but he is not that cruel, he gives Tusk 0.5 Reels out of 5. Matt has a love hate relationship with Kevin Smith and this is one of the hate instances. He gives Tusk 1 out of 5 Reels.
Next Tuesday we will be reviewing the least anticipated Marvel, not MCU, movie to date Venom. Matt is trying to get a special guest to be on who is a huge fan of Venom and what his thoughts are of his favorite comic character's latest flick. Don’t forget Harvest Horror Fest continues next Thursday with From Dusk till Dawn. Do us a favor and write in to let us know if you like or hate Harvest Horror Fest. I know Mike is loving it. Episode #52: Assassination Nation
Tuesday Oct 02, 2018
Tuesday Oct 02, 2018
Welcome back movie lovers to another episode of the Reel Film Nerds podcast! Today we review a movie that 90% of you have never heard of, Assassination Nation. This movie has had a limited release and was picked to go nation wide from the Sundance Film Festival. It is not for the faint of heart, but it is an amazing film. Mysterious Mike and Matt also talk about press conferences, the late Sen. John McCain, LGBTQ, sexting, and hackers.
Assassination Nation is a dark, gritty, and eye-opening film. It keeps you thinking during the movie and days after you witness it. The sets are great, the acting is amazing, and the story is incredible especially the social commentary. Matt and Mike were both surprised by this movie and really enjoyed it. They once again agree on a rating, 4 out of 5 Reels. Wait is this becoming a trend? Assassination Nation is not for everybody but if you love film this one is a must see.
Remember to tune in this Thursday when the first Reel Film Nerds Harvest Horror Fest kicks off with one of Kevin Smith’s first horror films, Tusk.

Episode #51: White Boy Rick
Thursday Sep 27, 2018
Thursday Sep 27, 2018
Welcome back everyone! Today your hosts Mysterious Mike and incredible Matt talk about Matthew McConaughey’s latest based on a true story film White Boy Rick. There is not a ton to say about this film without spoiling it but we will always do our best to warn you when he hit that discussion area. Topics also include crazy family life, drug addiction, the film Gold, and a controversial topic if all drugs should just be legal in the United States. Lastly they remind you that the first Reel Film Nerds Harvest Horror Fest kicks off in one week!!! Are you excited, we are!!!!
Mike and Matt both enjoyed this film but it is not a must see. What makes this movie great is the acting and the incredible true story. The editing was just flat out strange and the choices the director made on what to show you versus tell you bothered both of your hosts. Mike gives this film 3 out of 5 Reels while Matt is a little more lenient with 3.5 out of 5 Reels. The hosts both agree White Boy Rick is worth a watch just for the story but wait until it is released on a streaming service or at Red Box. Thank you for continued support and we will chat at you on Tuesday with a brand new movie review of Assassination Nation.

Episode #50: Legacy – Iron Man
Tuesday Sep 25, 2018
Tuesday Sep 25, 2018
Welcome to our super special 50th episode spectacular!!! In celebration of making it 50 podcasts we broke form a little. Today’s review is a Legacy cast not your typical new movie review, that will be on Thursday. We go all the way to the beginning where the now infamous Marvel Cinematic Universe started the original Iron Man. The second half of the pod the boys talk a bit about their favorite films they reviewed and some of their favorite moments of recording the pod together. Matt reminisces about co-founder and first co-host of the show Seth Marquardt. Lastly the guys talk about a possible giveaway for the next milestone, episode 100 or the podcast 1-year anniversary, whichever comes first.
Mysterious Mike and Matt both love this movie. It is a great story, well written, and well-acted. They both give the original Iron Man directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr. 4.5 out of 5 Reels.
Remember to tune in this Thursday when the guys review Matthew McConaughey’s latest film White Boy Rick. Don’t forget the first Reel Film Nerds Harvest Horror Fest kicks off next week with one of Kevin Smith’s first horror films Tusk.

Episode #49: Legacy – Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Thursday Sep 20, 2018
Thursday Sep 20, 2018
Good day everyone and welcome to yet another Reel Film Nerds podcast. Yep we aren’t going away that easy! Today Matt and Mike continue to gear up for their first Harvest Horror Fest with a Legacy cast of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. The guys try to tell some jokes, but they fail miserably. Staying on topic alludes your hosts too. Matt is probably the biggest problem when it comes to staying on topic, sorry everyone. Discussion includes Avengers 4, side boob, PBR, the new Captain Marvel trailer, Fargo, woodchippers, and hillbilly hog! What a fun and odd conversation.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a fun interesting take on the horror genre or comedy genre? Let’s just go with both. The writing is excellent, the acting is great, and the makeup/special effects are spot on. Mike gives the film a little above average score of 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt who is much better at rating movies (according to him) and not nearly as harsh as Mike gives it 4 out of 5 Reels.
Episode 50 is next! Can you believe it, we can’t. We thought for sure Mike would get mad at Matt and quit after only a few episodes, but he didn’t! Thanks, Mysterious Mike! What do the guys have in store, we have no idea, probably just more random off topic talk and maybe a movie review? Download next Tuesday’s episode to find out. Thanks again for listening and we will see you next week.

Episode#48: The Predator
Tuesday Sep 18, 2018
Tuesday Sep 18, 2018
Welcome boys and girls to yet another podcast!!! Today Mike and Matt talk about a giant mess of a movie, The Predator directed by Shane Black. The guys stay fairly on topic for this one and basically rip this film apart. This movie is just flat out all over the place. Matt talks a bit about the many reshoots and controversies surrounding this movie while Mike just listens. He was really tired so we will let it slide this time. The guys also discuss the original Predator from 1987 and how much better it is, (if you want to hear more go back and listen to our Legacy cast on it Episode #21) sleep or lack of, the Android operating system, the Terminator, and lastly K2SO from Rogue One.
Matt and Mike had a ton of issues with this film but it was still fun. If you are not a diehard Predator fan like they are wait until this one comes out on Netflix or Redbox. It is just all over the place with tons of plot holes and parts of the film that are just flat out strange. We have that rare occurrence when the guys agree on a rating both Mike and Matt give The Predator 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Like always thank you listening and spreading the word about our podcast to help us grow! Coming up on Thursday the guys review a fun horror film? comedy? both? Who knows we will all find out when the guys discuss and review Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Talk at you then!

Episode #47: Legacy – Ghostbusters (1984)
Thursday Sep 13, 2018
Thursday Sep 13, 2018
Hey kids and welcome to your last Reel Film Nerds pod of the week! We have an incredible Legacy cast for you today! It is a bit long but it is totally worth the extra 20 minutes or so. The one the only, well should be the only, Ghostbusters! Matt cannot say enough about this movie. It is one of his favorites, definitely top 5. Mysterious Mike also really likes this film from start to finish! The guys talk a ton about Ghostbusters trivia, John Candy, John Belushi, the not so great 2016 remake, and a little off topic The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon TV shows. Lastly the guys discuss what’s coming up in October the first ever Reel Film Nerds Harvest Horror Fest!
Mike and Matt both love Ghostbusters more than words can express, well at least Matt does. He gives us his first perfect score! It only took 47 episodes, but he has done it Matt gives Ghostbusters a perfect 5 out of 5 Reels! Mike loves this film but for some reason is not as awesome as Matt and only gives it 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Seriously Mike? WTF? Wait is that still a thing? I don’t care I am using it!
Next Tuesday the guys talk about a controversial film well it is controversial now, The Predator. They will try to explain all the controversy surrounding it and while Edward James Olmos was cut completely out! For Tuesday the guys continue their drive towards Harvest Horror Fest with a Legacy cast of the comedy horror film Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Episode #46: Peppermint
Tuesday Sep 11, 2018
Tuesday Sep 11, 2018
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to your first Reel Film Nerds pod of the week! Today your host’s Matt and Mike discuss Jennifer Garner’s return to the silver screen, Peppermint. Peppermint is your classic revenge story littered with tons of action scenes. Your hosts stick to the review at hand for the most part. Mike actually went off on a pretty solid tangent about Liam Neeson and his legacy of Taken films. Amazing, it was not Matt for once! Of course, he brought up Star Wars again but just for a little bit. Mike and Matt also discuss other revenge films they really enjoy like Man on Fire. For those of you looking for a discussion on Moviepass sorry. Maybe Mike will get Matt going on the next pod.
Mike and Matt both were not super impressed with this movie, but they did not think it was terrible either. It was just an average film. The acting was decent, the action was well done, the story is not great and has been repeated throughout cinema many times over, but it is not horrible either. Mike gives Peppermint 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt enjoyed the film as well but did have some issues with it especially how they ended it. He gives it 2.5 out of 5 Reels.
Coming up on Thursday is an incredible Legacy cast, Ghostbusters!!! No not the 2016 remake the original from 1984! Matt is super excited to talk about it and so is Mike. It is going to be a fun one. Thanks for listening and chat at you then!

Episode #45: Legacy – Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Thursday Sep 06, 2018
Thursday Sep 06, 2018
Hi everybody and welcome to the Reel Film Nerds latest pod. Today the guys discuss a fun and crazy Legacy Cast, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas starring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro. The guys talk about journalism, Hunter S. Thompson, Tobey Maguire, and lots of trivia about the film. Don’t worry they get off topic too. Mike just keeps pushing a Moviepass discussion and Matt might have finally given up the good fight and dropped his subscription.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a wild film with an insane and drug riddled premise. The acting is amazing, the sets are fantastic, and it is shot beautifully. The guys once again agreed on a rating. Matt and Mike both give Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 4 out of 5 Reels. What do you think, is Matt really as dark as he sounds and should he stop reading Marvel Comics and start reading the dark and gritty world of DC? Wait hold on we talk about movies here, so what if he is dark?
Next Tuesday the guys will be talking about Jennifer Garner’s action revenge thriller Peppermint. It is nice to see her getting work again outside of the Capital One commercials! Lastly don’t forget we are still looking for suggestions for Episode #50 which is coming up SUPER fast. Email us your thoughts and suggestions or just email us to say hello. Chat at you next week!

Episode #44: Operation Finale
Tuesday Sep 04, 2018
Tuesday Sep 04, 2018
Hello fellow movie nerds and welcome to another incredible episode of the Reel Film Nerds podcast! Today we talk about a very serious and incredible drama based on a true story, Operation Finale starring Sir Ben Kinglsey and Oscar Isaac. The film is based on the hunting down and capture of escaped Holocaust mastermind Adolph Eichmann. Your hosts do stray off topic a bit especially Matt like always but they do their best to steer the review back on course. The guys talk about why history is important, college, and World War 2 based movies The Darkest Hour and Dunkirk. This is one of the more serious podcasts the guys have done but it is a very serious film on an incredible true story.
Mike and Matt both loved this movie and highly recommend you see it even if you can’t make it to the local movie theater and have to watch it later when it comes out on Blu-ray or Netflix. It is incredibly impactful and well acted by the majority of the cast, sorry Nick Kroll you sucked. Matt and Mike both give the film 4 out of 5 Reels.
This Thursday Matt and Mike review a film that is basically the exact opposite of Operation Finale. The hosts review a cult classic drug riddle story based around the book and life of famed journalist Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas starring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro. Talk at you Thursday. Don’t forget we are still looking for suggestions for Episode #50 which is coming up real fast. Email us your thoughts on what we should do for this upcoming milestone episode.

Episode #43: The Happytime Murders
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Hey kids and welcome to our podcast about them moving pictures called movies! If you are a kid you probably should stop reading this now, this movie might have puppets in it but it is not for you! Today Mysterious Mike and Awesome Matt review Jenny McCarthy’s cousin (no seriously they are cousins!!), Melissa McCarthy’s, latest film The Happytime Murders! The guys do get off topic a bit on this one discussing Tesla’s, the Matrix, Elon Musk, and most importantly the Reel Film Nerd’s 50th Episode!
Mike loved the murder mystery set in a world where humans and puppets co-exist. There were a few scenes he loved more than others but genuinely enjoyed this film. He gives The Happytime Murders 3 out of 5 Reels. The Awesome Matt did not like this movie as much as Mike in fact he did not like it at all well there were a few really funny scenes. Maybe the trailer ruined it for him. Matt gives The Happytime Murders 2 our 5 Reels.
What do you want Matt and Mike to do for their first milestone, Episode 50? Email us at Nerds@ReelFilmNerds.com and let us know your thoughts. Do you want to win a Blu-ray? Maybe they just review a really cool fun legacy movie. Let us know what you want to hear. On the docket for next week the boys will review Operation Finale, a true story based on the hunt for the Nazi officer who masterminded the Holocaust. Chat at you next Tuesday.

Episode #42: Mile 22
Tuesday Aug 28, 2018
Tuesday Aug 28, 2018
Hi everybody! Today your hosts review Marky Mark’s latest action thriller Mile 22. It is a solid action film with a bad and over used storyline. The biggest shining light is Iko Uwais’ martial arts stunts. It is very reminiscent of the older martial arts films and is just a joy to watch. The guys pretty much stay on topic except Mike does bring up Moviepass and surprise, Matt actually used it to see Mile 22! YEAH!!! Using a service, he has paid for is a great thing.
For the most part Mysterious Mike enjoyed the film. The story was not great, but he loved the action sequences and his boy Mark Wahlberg. He gives Mile 22 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt was not a fan of this film. He did enjoy the acting especially by his sweetheart Lauren Cohan (what is wrong with this guy does he love every girl he sees on the big screen, man he needs a girlfriend!) and thought Iko Uwais was amazing! He was disappointed that John Malkovich did not have a bigger role and spent the entire movie talking into a microphone. He gives it 2 out of 5 Reels.
Thank you for liking, subscribing, rating, reviewing, and telling your friends about our podcast. The guys will be back with Episode #43 on Thursday reviewing a puppet movie, not one for the kids though, The Happytime Murders.

Episode #41: Legacy – Clerks
Thursday Aug 23, 2018
Thursday Aug 23, 2018
So Mike slacked off this week and did not do his homework so we will not be reviewing Mile 22, yet. He only made it to BlacKkKlansman. Matt did his homework so for once it is not his fault! Instead we bring you an incredible Legacy cast indie film that launched Kevin Smith’s career into the stratosphere, Clerks. As you already know if you are still listening to our podcast after 40 episodes we get off topic a lot. Here is the short list of things we talk about today. Russell Crowe’s codpiece from Cinderella Man, Mike’s high school nickname, the acceptance of nerd culture, Blockbuster, Sprouts grocery stores (seriously), Star Wars, of course, and lastly the Reel Film Nerds upcoming October horror movie fest! Sit back relax crack open your favorite brew and enjoy the show unless you are at work then just get back to work you slacker!
Matt loves Clerks a ton. It has incredible writing and dialogue with solid cinematography but really rough acting. Hey it is an indie and Kevin Smith basically used all of his friends and family as actors. They did a bang up job though. He gives Clerks 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Mike loves Clerks as well but not as much as Matt. Maybe it is the high school nickname he earned related to this film or maybe he is just harsh. Mike gives Clerks a respectable 4 out of 5 Reels.
Stay tuned for next week’s episodes when we review Mark Wahlberg’s latest action flick Mile 22 (maybe?) and the raunchy yet hilarious puppet caper The Happy Time Murders starring Melissa McCarthy. Thanks for listening and chat at you Tuesday!

Episode #40: BlacKkKlansman
Tuesday Aug 21, 2018
Tuesday Aug 21, 2018
Welcome listeners new and old to the Reel Film Nerds Podcast! Today your hosts Matt Hinshaw and Mysterious Mike get political while reviewing Spike Lee’s latest joint BlacKkKlansman. They really tried to keep politics out but it is very difficult with a film like this. Was Mike able to keep the Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-ins going? Heck ya he was, this makes 32 movies Mike has tied to the MCU. If you are wondering why it is only 32 out of 40 well Mike did not join the show until Episode #4: Black Panther, we have reviewed 3 MCU films, and lastly Mike did not appear on two episodes (Episode #9 and Episode #12). I know more information then you care to know but it is pretty cool that we are proving our theory.
Mike and Matt both enjoyed this film and recommend you see it if it’s available near you. It is not a must for a movie theater, but it is worth your time if it is. Adam Driver and John David Washington were excellent along with the fascinating true story. The guys thought there were some political scenes and writing Spike Lee added to the film that were not needed. This film is already impactful enough in today’s climate without them. Mike gives BlacKkKlansman a respectable 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt thought it earned higher marks then that even though there were parts of the film he did not think were necessary. He gives BlacKkKlansman a 4 out of 5 Reels.
Thank you for liking, subscribing, rating, reviewing, and telling your friends about our podcast. The guys will be back with Episode #41 on Thursday for another Legacy cast, the infamous film that launched the career of Kevin Smith, Clerks. Chat at you then.

Episode #39: Tributary - Mute
Thursday Aug 16, 2018
Thursday Aug 16, 2018
Welcome back to the unofficial Chipotle podcast! Today your two hosts bust out with their second Tributary cast the Netflix original movie Mute. This futuristic dystopian Sci-Fi thriller is very reminiscent of Blade Runner in scope and feel; it is not Blade Runner though. The guys try something new trying to talk about the film without spoiling it for the first half of the pod and let loose and spoil everything for the second half. We warn you many times so if you don’t want to hear it you can stop accordingly. Do you like the new format? Mike again brings up MoviePass and its impending demise. The guys request some hate mail and hate comments but doubt they will get any. Go ahead send us some especially to Mysterious Mike and Mike@ReelFilmNerds.com. Lastly RFN can now be found on Spotify!! There is no excuse not to subscribe!
Mute was a confusing badly written but beautifully filmed movie that you can probably skip unless you really need something to watch or you love Paul Rudd. Mike gives it 2 out of 5 Reels. Matt as always is more generous why, who knows maybe he is drunk again, he gives Mute 3 out of 5 Reels. Thanks for listening and chat at you on Tuesday!

Episode #38: The Meg
Tuesday Aug 14, 2018
Tuesday Aug 14, 2018
Welcome back fellow film nerds! Today Matt and Mike review a giant piece of crap that they do not understand why it is doing so well at the box office, The Meg. Things get off the rails fast! The guys start talking about baby names, online gaming in the early 90’s, and of course MoviePass. Mike mostly wanted to see if Matt had finally cancelled his subscription, nope! Back on topic, did The Meg get such amazing box office numbers over opening weekend because it was rated PG-13 instead of R and why the hell is Ruby Rose’s hair constantly wet in this movie for no reason? The guys finish the review by getting serious a bit about animals and their senseless killing such as sharks to make only shark fin soup. They do not go too in depth but the boys do voice their thoughts on the subject.
The Meg was bad, really really bad, and the guys agree you should not waste your money on it. Matt was too kind like always and gave it 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Mike handed out the lowest rating in Reel Film Nerds history with a 1 out of 5 Reels. Seriously don’t see this movie but do listen to the podcast. It is a good one even with all the off topic nonsense! Make sure check back on Thursday for the guys second Tributary cast for the Netflix Original Movie starring Paul Rudd, Mute.

Episode #37: Legacy – Universal Soldier
Thursday Aug 09, 2018
Thursday Aug 09, 2018
Hello boys and girls and welcome to another Legacy cast! Today your hosts Mysterious Mike and Matt Hinshaw talk about a beloved childhood action film Universal Soldier. The guys loved this movie a ton when they were kids, today in their 30’s not so much. They also discuss the many northern Arizona locations it was filmed at and why the many more recent films based in AZ are not filmed there but in New Mexico. Matt gets lost in the internet while researching an aircraft featured in the film called the Super Guppy. Lesson learned don’t pod and internet! There is lots of fun Universal Soldier trivia discussed by both hosts and even the discovery of multiple sequels neither of them knew existed. This is a Legacy Cast for the ages!
Matt and Mike both were disappointed re-watching this film. It does not stand the test of time. The acting is very bad and the movie comes across as flat out cheesy. The guys both give Universal Soldier 2 Reels out of 5. Next week the guys will be reviewing the summer blockbuster shark movie The Meg and their second Tributary Cast the Netflix Original movie Mute. Chat with you next week!
